About EVK

Our Story

Founded in 2015, as a branch from West Coast Christian School, we were opened to provide Licensed Out of School Care for the surrounding schools and a Licensed Preschool for our local neighbourhood. In April of 2024 we expanded, adding a new location with full day daycare for children aged 1 – 5. Over the last decade we have had the joy and privilege of serving the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood and being a part of the rich and vibrant community that lies within. We are grateful to be a part of this community and are looking forward to the next decade of serving this neighbourhood.

Philosophy and Values

At East Village Kids we encourage children to be intrigued by the world around them, to be excited, and to be challenged by what they encounter on a daily basis. With educators taking on roles of guides and facilitators we seek to journey through experiences with the group and to be present for each child as they make their own discoveries. As a play-based, Reggio-inspired facility we view each interaction as a growth opportunity and using an emergent curriculum allows us to be responsive to the needs and development of each child.

As a Christian based program, East Village Kids staff will demonstrate Christian attitudes and values. This includes: a loving attitude towards others, a respect and concern for the world around us and an understanding that we are all imperfect beings in need of grace and forgiveness.  Being a Christian based program does not mean that families with different faiths or views are not welcome. Rather, being a Christian organization means, any family from any background is always welcome in any of our programs. We encourage families to talk with their children about what they hear in our program in relation to their own beliefs. We do not set aside specific bible teaching times but rather strive to allow our values be reflected through our actions. Just as we do not hide our own, we do not hide other faiths or beliefs represented in the programs.
